Job Description
As Claims Handler Marine you handle a portfolio of complex claims within the marine business in the Benelux. With your sharp analytics you are able to assess and evaluate policy liability, to calculate reserve exposures and to assess settlement values of claims. Furthermore you are able to negotiate settlements to bring claims to a successful conclusion with all stakeholders involved. Utilizing your discipline and administrative skills, you handle and maintain document files through the use of diary, logs and monitoring tools. Promoting teamwork you motivate and coach junior colleagues. You have the vigour and ambition to grow into the figure head of the Benelux marine claims handling capability, representing the organization at internal and external meetings including review meetings. Where required, you can deputise for the Claims Manager and participate in projects, which can include catastrophe management. You take pride in bringing the claims handling service of this specific line of business to a higher level by sharing best practices and creating an atmosphere that drives teamwork, efficiency and results. You provide support to the Benelux Claims Department by keeping your promises and by meeting your strategic and financial targets. You present independent and information based views to set exceptional performance; driving transparency, value creation and benchmarks to support the Benelux strategy.
Requirements
- Relevant master degree, like law or business economics. Post graduate diplomas in the marine or insurance field such as Assurantie A + Branche Transport / ABAM / BVT or other industry recognized qualifications.
- Minimum of 6 years experience of marine (Benelux) claims handling in an insurance company or insurance broker environment with associated legal aspects. Some managerial experience is preferred.
- Ability to successfully handle complex claims in the marine business and take the lead in tender processes.
- Ability to understand actuarial fundamentals
- Solid sense of integrity and able to follow strict code of conduct.
- Strong customer focus, business judgment and interpersonal skills. Ability to see the big picture with focus on detail when necessary.
- Problem solver with excellent stakeholder management skills.
- Taskmaster with discipline and outstanding administrative skills; proactively managing work through to completion, within deadlines.
- Strong analytical skills and conceptual capabilities; assessing value & risks, improving transparency and driving efficiency.
- Fluent English and Dutch, good French preferred.
- Willingness to travel when required
